FAQ

FOR EMPLOYEES

Who pays me for the work I do, and when will I get paid?
     - The employer will usually pay you directly, and often at the end of the day. Helping Hands recruitment tends to function only as an intermediary. Only in rare occasions will an employer pay us directly, then we pay you.

Why do I need to pay an administration fee?
     - There are two reasons why Helping Hands Recruitment charges a fee. Firstly it ensures we only get interest from genuine committed people, otherwise we would receive endless CV's and spend more time chasing down people than delivering work. Secondly, the cost covers a complete background check - we contact your references and make sure everything is above board.

Can you guarantee I will get work through Helping Hands?
    - While there is no guarantee, we constantly and tirelessly strive to deliver what we promise - work for all who want it. We are an agency and would not exist without delivering good on our aims.

Do I need any special qualifications or experience?
    - This depends on the job and employer. In some cases yes, in others specific qualifications are desirable but not necessary. We also receive work which is manual in nature but requires nothing more than a strong back. We endeavour to offer as many roles, with as much variety, as possible.

Do I get paid travel expenses, meal breaks etc?
    - These are entirely up to the employer (subject to UK Employment Law). Often our employers are after a 'till the job's done' approach, this could include working 6hrs straight, or could include multiple tea breaks.

Who handles Income Tax, National Insurance and so on?
    - You are responsible for declaring any instances that need to be reported to the relevant authority, be that HMRC, or local authority if you are in receipt of benefits. Helping Hands acts solely as a third party to all arrangements and as such does not keep data on individuals incomes.

FOR EMPLOYERS

How much notice do I need to give when hiring from Helping Hands?
    - We have people who are ready and available with only a couple of hours notice, but generally speaking the more notice the better is always the best choice. All our candidates are vetted when they register, one detail we note is their availability and time needed for notice.

Who is responsible for paying the employees wage, and how is it handled?
    - You as the employer are directly responsible for paying any employee we send to you. Any related tax/insurance is also your responsibility. In some occasions we can act as intermediary and accept payment directly from yourself before passing it to the employee. We find it is better to allow these matters to be handled by you though. You can pay the employee at any time but we recommend this is done upon completion of the day/allocated time period, while you are still face to face with the employee.

I was very happy with the service from one employee, can I hire that person again?
    - Yes. We endeavour to cater to your exact needs by providing the best choice candidate for the work at hand. Where possible we can provide the same candidate on future requests assuming they are still registered and active with us.

How can you guarantee an employee will be up to the task I need?
    - We screen and vet every person who registers with us. This includes background checks, qualifications  and references. We work with the information you provide to ensure we get a perfect match.

I need somebody for longer than a couple of days, can you provide that?
    - While we do specialise with short-term work commitments we can provide candidates for longer work periods. If this work is longer than a week in length, or is regular in booking, we may also be able to offer a discount on our rates.

Are all your staff vetted, and by whom?
    - Helping Hand Recruitment is operated and ran by 'Athene Services'. A branch of Athene is 'Advanced Security and Investigation'. It is this branch that handles all background checks and obtains the information and checks qualifications and references on all staff registered with Helping Hand. All information is collected, and all staff vetted, by security professionals with over 9 years experience in the security industry.

For Employers

Thanks for checking our Helping Hands Recruitment

We specialise in getting you the help you need - when you need it, for as long as you need it
- without all the fuss and jargon of complicated contracts.

One of the underlying principals we strongly believe in is 'transparency'.

Transparency of service - what you can expect from us
Transparency of trust - what we expect from you.

What we offer are valuable, skilled and experienced personnel, for short term work details.
The potential employees on our books understand and accept that the work is only temporary - for as long as you need it.

We offer short term employees and we offer short notice employees.
All our registered employees are 100% vetted and committed to the job on hand.

How we operate is very simple -

1. Once you registered with Helping Hands and we have confirmed your business is legitimate, actively trading, and our personnel will be guaranteed a wage equal to or exceeding the National Minimum Wage, you may request from us additional staff.

2. We provide trained and experienced staff subject to THREE conditions -
a). The type of work, estimated length (start date/time - finish date/time), location, wage, and any specific requirements are all stated, made clear, and agreed upon by us and our personnel.
b). You agree to pay a wage equal to or exceeding the National Minimum Wage for any and all hours worked..
c). You are operating within, adhere to, understand, and will clearly inform our personnel of all relevant Health and Safety practices, and such restrictions and requirements as necessary under UK law.

3. The responsibility of paying the workers we send falls solely to you as the employer. Helping Hands acts as a third party mediator and our fees are handled separately.

For this service Helping Hands charges a nominal flat fee of £10.00 per person per day.
We DO NOT charge a percentage.

For Employees

Thanks for checking out Helping Hands Recruitment.

We specialise in getting you a decent days work with an employer local to you.

One of the underlying principals we strongly believe in is 'transparency'.

Transparency of trust - what we expect from you.

Our process for new registrations is as follows -

1. Familiarise yourself with our site. We specialise in local, short-term placements. This is ideal for people looking for a none-commitment style of work, people who want to earn extra income and gain valuable experience with local employers.

2. Understand because we are different from a regular recruitment agency, our fees are handled in a different way. We charge all new registrations a one-time £5.00 administration fee*.  We DO NOT take any percentage of your wage - all money you earn is yours to keep in full.

(* details of why we charge this fee, and what it covers can be found in our FAQ section)

Once you are registered with Helping Hands we then attempt to match your details with one of our registered Employers as and when they request our assistance. We also actively source new employers on a daily basis to offer our services.

We do our utmost to find you real work.

To complete your registration we need the following details. These are best emailed to us in either text (Word/Open Office) or PDF version  -

Current CV - this must be up to date, and include past experience and at least two referees.

Life Experience - we all have details that don't fit on to a regular CV. What are your hobbies and skills? Many of our employers are local tradesman - carpet fitters, decorators etc. How are your manual skills?

Travel Arrangements - do you have your own transport? We try to source vacancies that are close to your location, or have good public transport links. In many occasions our employers can pick you up directly.

Flexibility/Availability  - when are you available to work? Do you have any commitments which restrict your availability, or your short notice availability?

Ideal type of work - what areas of work are you specifically looking for? This could be retail, shop-fitting, manual / none manual etc.

Convictions/CCJ's - please be honest here. We do full background checks on all our applicants. If you are found to have withheld information you will be struck off our lists. We do not hold past/spent convictions against people. If you have served your time your debt to society has been paid.

Other info - please feel free to include any other details you feel necessary, that we should know, or that may help you find work

About

Welcome to 'Helping Hands'
- the specialist recruitment service providing that little extra manpower

Helping Hands is different from your typical Recruitment Agency as we focus purely on providing short-term, immediate assistance.

For an Employer -
we provide that extra set of hands you need, right now, just for that one job.

For an Employee -
we provide a real days work, alongside a real employer, who really needs your help!

There is no long-term commitment, no lengthy contracts, no complicated jargon.

If you are an employer and you need an extra set of hands - maybe the job is only for a couple of days, perhaps you have work lined-up, that you cant get to, because you are snowed under. Perhaps you are a sole-trader and that furniture to move is a 2-man job.

Whatever the reason, if you could do with an extra body, we have an extensive list of local, available - and vetted - people looking for the chance to help out.

For the potential employee - if you have skills, talents, or experience, that could be put to good use, and you are looking for a little extra work, 'Helping Hands' is for you. What matters most is honesty, time-keeping, and the ability to do the job required.

We can give you a placement with a working professional, local to you, who will pay you the going rate for a days work. Helping Hands takes zero fees from your efforts.
